Filling Our Inner Tank

Let’s face it, if we did not make it a point to fill the tank of our car on a regular basis, we wouldn’t get too far on our daily travels. As the needle on the gas meter slowly reaches the “E”, it is an indication to us that it’s time to fill up. And, we do so because we know the consequences of not filling it. No one wants to be left stranded on the side of the road without gas in the car, right?  Why is it then that we find it so hard to ensure that our inner “tank” also gets filled regularly? There is no concrete indicator that informs us when that personal tank is running low. Therefore, we need to be aware of the things that deplete us.

If we are critical with ourselves, if we do not nurture our inner spirit, if we constantly burden ourselves trying to do too much, we deplete the tank.  Worry, resentment, anger, jealousy, pain, insecurity and so much more cause this inner vessel to become depleted. When the tank of our soul is empty, we see the world vastly different than it actually is. We may even begin to withdraw from others thus compromising our relationships with them.

Our inner tank needs to be filled with self love. We need to feed it daily with what nurtures it. Learning to love yourself starts with making a conscious decision, with an intention to become happy and lead a fulfilled life. Lucille Ball once said, “Love yourself first and everything falls into line.” I have learned that when I take quiet time for myself, meditating, reading a good book, spending time in nature, being creative, or exercising, I feel full! My inner spirit is full and thus I am able to create more joy in my life. Moreover, when that tank is full, I am able to give to others unconditionally. The funny thing is that when I give to others in whatever form it takes on, my tank does not seem to deplete itself as with other things that seem to zap the energy right out of me. When I live my life with exuberance, it automatically puts me in a higher state of energy. I have realized that in giving, I am also receiving. Make a list of the things that bring you joy and provide you with energy. Use this list as the fuel that will fill your soul and will ensure that your inner spirit isn’t running on empty anymore.

Wishing you much abundance,

Jeanette
